New HSE Information Sheet: Mobile Elevating Work Platforms
The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has recently updated their website with a new information sheet to help those involved in the selection, management and use of Mobile Elevating Work Platforms (MEWPs).

Recent figures published by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) show that although Britain remains one of the safest places to work in Europe, an estimated 28.2 million working days were lost due to work related ill health or injury in 2013/14.
Construction (Design and Management) Regulations (CDM) Update
The HSE are now proposing to develop an Approved Code of Practice (ACOP) in a reduced form, subject to Board approval and then proceed to gain the relevant Government clearances to allow the draft CDM 2015 Regulations to come into force in April 2015.

Workplace Transport – New Guidance from the HSE
Vehicles at work continue to be a major cause of fatal and major injuries. According to the HSE there are over 5000 incidents each year involving transport in the workplace. Approximately 50 of these incidents result in people being killed. It is estimated that up to one-third of all road traffic accidents involve someone who is at work at the time1. The HSE have published a new guidance document, HSG136, which has been updated to take account of new advice on workplace transport safety and also to reflect changes to relevant legislation and associated guidance. HSG136 provides specific guidance on controlling risks associated with workplace transport including safe sites, safe vehicles and safe drivers.

European Health and Safety Week: Managing Work Related Stress
This week is European Health and Safety Week, each year a new campaign is run to highlight and raise awareness of specific health or safety topics. This year the focus is ‘Healthy Work Places’, with the aim to get Europe talking about stress and psychosocial risks in the workplace and how they can be managed.
