It has been reported that the new ISO 45001 standard has gained approval, and is set to be published in March. The standard follows the generic management system structure used for ISO 14001 and ISO 9001.

The International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO) has confirmed a provisional publication date of late November 2017 for the Final Draft International Standard (FDIS) of ISO 45001, with the publication of the final Standard to then follow in the first quarter or first half of 2018.

The Health and Safety Executive has recently released its annual figures of workplace fatalities for the year 2016/2017. The figures highlight that 137 people were killed at work. Of these, 57 fatalities were in construction and agriculture.

The S2 Partnership has previously highlighted falls from height as being the most common cause of fatality for UK workers – and this remains true today. Of the 144* fatal injuries to workers in 2015/16 in Great Britain, the highest number by accident kind were accounted for by fall from a height – 37 cases.
Public consultation began on 10th April 2017 and closes on 12th June 2017 on the draft code of practice for the safe use of mobile elevating work platforms (MEWPS), last published in 2005.
