HSE Guidance on Reporting of COVID-19 Incidents Under RIDDOR

16th April 2020

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has outlined when and how companies should report coronavirus incidents under RIDDOR (the Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations 2013).

Guidance states that companies must only make a report under RIDDOR when:

  • an unintended incident at work has led to someone’s possible or actual exposure to coronavirus. This must be reported as a dangerous occurrence.
  • a worker has been diagnosed as having COVID 19 and there is reasonable evidence that it was caused by exposure at work. This must be reported as a case of disease.
  • a worker dies as a result of occupational exposure to coronavirus.

How the S2 Partnership can help

The RiskWise Accident, Incident & Claims Management module features user-friendly incident forms, which can be customised to capture details, including suspected or confirmed cases of infectious diseases reported at sites. The system allows automatic notification of relevant stakeholders and, if necessary, statutory authorities (including the HSE) when certain incidents occur, reducing the double-handling of information.
