New Legionella Safety Notice from the HSE

19th September 2012

Today, the HSE have issued a new safety notice targeting organisations that use hot and cold water systems for bathing and washing or in manufacturing processes. It follows the publication of a separate notice in July aimed at companies with cooling towers and evaporative condensers.

HSE Legionella expert Paul McDermott said: “While the numbers of people potentially affected by poorly maintained water systems and spa pools are likely to be smaller than poorly maintained cooling towers, there can still be fatal consequences…Companies have a legal responsibility to ensure they’re doing all they can to protect workers and the public.”

The safety bulletin draws attention to key aspects of the proper management of the risks from Legionella in water systems other than cooling towers and evaporative condensers.
