Waste Not Want Not, in the Commercial Real Estate Sector

9th October 2017

Sam Benson, Environmental Consultant for S2 Partnership has published an informative article for GRESB and their members, called ‘Waste Not Want Not, in the Commercial Real Estate Sector’.  The article highlights the importance of responsible waste management.

The article discusses the sustainable management of waste, which is seen as crucial to providing environmental, social and economic benefits to both the current and future generations.  In order to understand how to optimise the management of waste, it is important to hold a rich source of data. A useful tool for collating waste management data at asset, organisational and portfolio level is RiskWise, S2’s market-leading risk management software.

GRESB submissions also require the collection of this data on a portfolio level, and so monitoring waste using a data management system can help increase the portfolio GRESB score. Storing such data also provides the foundation for implementing a meaningful reduction programme.

GRESB (Global Real Estate Sustainability Benchmark) is an initiative which is engaged in assessing the sustainability performance of real estate investment solutions.  It offers scorecards, benchmark reports and portfolio analysis tools to improve performance, as well as access to leading organisations in their field – GRESB Partners – who can provide support to other organisations.  GRESB is responding to the demand from investors to provide high-quality ESG data and powerful analytical tools to the real estate industry.
