HSE Announce Changes to Risk Assessment Guidance

25th October 2016

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has recently announced proposed changes to the risk assessment guidance contained in INDG163.   The proposed changes are designed to allow duty holders greater flexibility to utilise other documents such as procedures, safe systems of work etc. to demonstrate a record of the significant findings of their risk assessment.

The changes have been proposed as the HSE expressed concerns that many people see the requirement to record significant findings of a risk assessment separately from other things forming part of their day-today business management.   The HSE reiterates that a risk assessment is “not about creating huge amounts of paperwork – it is about identifying sensible measures to control the risks in your workplace.”
