Mandatory Greenhouse Gas Emissions Reporting Comes into Force

3rd October 2013

From 1st October 2013, the Companies Act 2006 (Strategic Report and Directors’ Report) Regulations 2013 requires all UK quoted companies to report on their greenhouse gas emissions as part of their annual Directors’ Report.

The new requirements, designed to encourage companies to measure and so begin to manage and reduce their environmental impacts, affects all UK incorporated companies listed on the main market of the London Stock Exchange, a European Economic Area market or whose shares are dealing on the New York Stock Exchange or NASDAQ.

Whilst the government encourages all other companies to report similarly, this remains voluntary. Advice for companies who are required to report, and for companies reporting voluntarily, can be found in the Environmental Reporting Guidelines here.
