Employers Urged to Focus on Safety in 2013

10th January 2013

Employers across all UK regions have been urged by the HSE (Health & Safety Executive) to maintain their safety focus for 2013 after the number of deaths in Great Britain failed to show a significant fall in 2011/12.

Speaking at the end of 2012, the HSE urged employers to continue their focus on safety in the New Year:

“It’s clear why health and safety in British workplaces needs to be taken seriously… My New Year wish is that we can reduce the number of deaths and major injury in 2013 and make the year ahead a happier one for many families.”

Between April 2011 and March 2012 on average, six in every million people were killed at work in Great Britain. 173 workers were killed at work in Great Britain last year, compared to 175 during 2010/11.

Reports such as these show an obvious need for continued focus on Health & Safety – it would be great to see the HSE’s New Year wish become every employer’s resolution to make workplaces safer in Great Britain.
