Energy Bill Unveiled by Davey

3rd December 2012

Energy minister Ed Davey last week unveiled the government’s Energy Bill, detailing measures proposed to “transform” the UK to a “low-carbon economy”.

The draft Bill included measures targeting domestic energy users, energy firms and UK businesses all with the ultimate aim of moving the UK’s energy production away from a dependency on fossil fuels.

For businesses, the government proposed incentives to reduce electricity demand such as paying firms for each kilowatt-hour they save as a result of energy reduction measures, and incentives to replace old equipment with new energy-efficient versions.
Greg Barker, climate change minister, said: “For the first time, we are going to place energy efficiency on a par with building new generation assets”.
