HSE Begins Fee for Intervention (FFI)

2nd October 2012

Each year approximately 170 people are fatally injured at work with more than 100,000 serious injuries being reported to the HSE. Sadly many of these incidents are caused by the same basic safety mistakes which have been responsible for injuring and killing people for many years. It is now considered appropriate that those who fail to meet their legal obligations should pay HSE’s costs rather than the public purse having to do so.

Under The Health and Safety (Fees) Regulations 2012, introduced on 1st October 2012, those who break health and safety laws are liable for recovery of the HSE’s related costs, including, inspection, investigation and taking enforcement action. Such charges (the FFI hourly rate for 2012/13 being £124) serve to provide further incentive for businesses to properly manage their Health and Safety responsibilities.

It should be noted that, as previously, charges are not payable where no breach of regulation is identified. For details visit www.hse.gov.uk.  For further advice on health, safety & environmental risk management contact The S2 Partnership email hello@s2partnership.co.uk or call +44 (0)1954 267788.
