It's risk management
but not as you know it
Demands on your business never stand still so it makes sense that neither
should the software that helps to run it. RiskWise2 is being
rolled out across the UK, but with the original RiskWise risk management
software standing head and shoulders above the competition, what
on earth makes this version even better?
In the search for sleeker operations and better margins, companies
are increasingly turning to technology to provide answers. The area
of commercial facilities management is no exception, particularly when
it comes to risk. RiskWise, S2's much lauded risk management
software, has been successfully plugging the gap for five years.
But keeping on top of health, safety and environment compliance commitments
and changes in legislation is taxing for every business. The larger
the organisation, the bigger the headache. So now, as a direct result
of client feedback, RiskWise has been upgraded and is being rolled out
across the UK.
RiskWise2 feels familiar enough. It's as easy to use as
RiskWise, even looks the same...so, what's different?
Information as you like it
RiskWise2 gives you the power to capture data, monitor changes
and run detailed reports on your health and safety and risk information,
including waste and energy data for advanced environmental management.
A digital dashboard makes it easy to transform data into graphs, allowing
you to keep an eye on company-wide risks and trends.

Using this sophisticated software, you can keep track of all outstanding
actions and inform the relevant stakeholder. Of course, confidentiality
and integrity of data is vital, which is why RiskWise2 now
features an authorisation facility, giving you greater control over
who views and modifies information.
Instant access, round the clock
RiskWise2 removes the usual hassle associated with logging
into in-house systems remotely. Using web-based software you have instant
access to your information, day and night, wherever you may be. Its
new modular approach means that your data and documentation is archived
in a single, secure storage facility - so no more time wasted hunting
down misfiled information.
Mitigate your corporate liability
In addition, a diary function reminds you of forthcoming inspections,
ensuring that you're always prepared, while a HSE newsfeed keeps you
up to date with changes in legislation. It's this detailed focus that
makes RiskWise2 critical in delivering a streamlined, proactive,
and cost-effective risk management process, giving businesses like yours
total peace of mind that every building is health and safety compliant.

Polar future on thin ice
 |
Ice Team - Martin Hartley, Ann Daniels
and Pen Hadow |
Sea ice is thinner than first feared, according to the latest findings
of the British Polar exploration team led by Pen Hadow, proudly sponsored
by the S2 Partnership.
The team recently discovered that ice formed in the Arctic over the
last year has an average thickness of just 1.77m, which means that older
ice (usually thicker than 3m) has either moved across the Arctic Ocean
or melted. It's therefore very likely that this new ice will also melt
in the summer months.
Polar experts believe that the Arctic is warming so quickly that the
summer ice could vanish altogether as soon as 2013, decades earlier
than some had anticipated.
The team set out in March to travel 620 miles from Canada's Arctic
to the North Pole in a bid to establish exactly what effect climate
change is having on the region, measuring both ice and snow thickness.
Half way through their on-foot trek, with temperatures plummeting to
-40F (-40C), their high tech equipment failed, so detailed measurements
of the floating ice had to be taken the 'old fashioned' way, by physically
drilling and taking readings for about four hours.

Commenting on the findings, Pen Hadow, said, "My surprise
is guided by the scientific community's expectations of what the ice
should be here. In the opening section of the (journey), most would
have anticipated multi-year ice, ice certainly more than 2 metres and
really more than 3.5 metres thick."
The team has now been lifted from the ice slightly ahead of schedule
to ensure their safe return. Speaking from the landing strip, Pen reflected
on his experience, saying, "It was a gruelling but successful
expedition. In our time here, we have captured around 16,000 observations
and taken 1500 measurements of the thickness of the ice and snow as
well as its density. That's a valuable set of data we've collected for
scientists. So we're handing it over to them now."

Newsletter Spotlight - S2
Celebrating 10 Years of Health and Safety and Environmental Consulting
The S2 Partnership is 10 years young this year and despite
the impact of the global economy, we continue to grow a solid client
base in both England and Scotland. This year, we have successfully launched
both RiskWise2 and our new Value Added Services offering.
The S2 team has grown considerably this year and we would
like to take this opportunity to welcome Robert Clarke to our Water
Hygiene team, and sales and marketing experts, Tom Whelan, Charles Nunn
and Leigh Tymms. We wish them every success for their future with us.
A growing team needs more space. So when you visit, you will also find
that we've taken over the offices next door to our head office in Elsworth,
Cambridge, which has become home to our technical team.
