Asbestos
Asbestos was extensively used in construction materials up until the late 1980s and is still present in a significant number of buildings. Although in an undisturbed state these materials may be safe, breathing in loose fibres and dust can be a killer. Between 2000 and 3000 people die each year from past exposure to asbestos fibres, and this figure is expected to continue to rise.
Those who own, manage and occupy buildings that may contain asbestos have a legal duty to manage the risk, and this duty hinges on a legal requirement to presume that any material contains asbestos unless there is strong evidence to suggest it does not.
The S2 Partnership offers services in the field of asbestos
management through our specialist team of experienced consultants
and surveyors. We are independent of asbestos removal contractors
and can help with:
Asbestos Building Surveys
Asbestos Management Systems
Project Management
The commercial advantages of this approach are:
Peace of Mind - comply with the law and manage asbestos responsibly
Safeguard the health & safety of those working in your buildings
Manage asbestos without necessarily extensive and costly removal
The S2 Partnership's specialist team of P402-qualified and experienced asbestos surveyors offers a truly independent and professional service in the field of asbestos surveys and safety management systems.
Our surveyors examine buildings in accordance with Health & Safety Executive (HSE) guidance (MDHS100) and draw up a survey report, asbestos register and risk assessments. Reports are clear and backed up with digital photographs and CAD drawings where appropriate. We can undertake Type 1 (presumptive), Type 2 (sampling) or Type 3 (pre-demolition or refurbishment). We use only sampling laboratories accredited by UKAS.
Managing asbestos in a building is more than just sampling. Our comprehensive Asbestos Management System is simple and effective and includes:
Policy information
Survey Report
Asbestos Register
Risk Assessments
CAD Drawings and Photographs
Management information, including training records, Site Log, Permit to Work, Asbestos Notice, and Monitoring and audit records
The Report of Recommendations that follows our surveys is pragmatic and focused on effectively managing asbestos in a building. Costly removal of asbestos is not always the best solution, and our recommendations will reflect this.
Where asbestos removal or encapsulation is the best option, we offer a full project management service, which includes overseeing the safety of work proposed and undertaken by licensed asbestos contractors.
Our surveyor will draw up specifications and will seek quotations from appropriately-licensed and approved contractors. We examine their proposals in light of current legal standards and make recommendations to the client based on the most cost-effective and suitable solution. Our surveyor oversees the safety of the selected contractor's work, including independent air-testing where necessary, and we issue a completion certificate to confirm that the work has been undertaken safely and in compliance with HSE requirements. In this way we safeguard your position and ensure that site safety precautions meet legal requirements and good practice.
We also offer tailored in-house training courses in asbestos management.
