Slip Assessment

A Slip Assessment is undertaken to determine the slipperiness of a surface by measuring the roughness of flooring materials. This is carried out to help identify any areas where there is an increased risk to visitors and employees slipping over and potentially injuring themselves.

Slips and trips consistently account for around 1 in 3 non-fatal major injuries, and for over 1 in 5 over-3-day injuries in workplace areas throughout Great Britain, a total of at least 35,000 injuries per annum (one serious slip accident every 3 minutes).  The law requires that floors must not be slippery so they put people’s safety at risk (The Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992).

What are the benefits?

A Slip Assessment helps to protect people as well as businesses by identifying and controlling hazards and risk which have the potential to cause harm in order to ensure reduced liability, legal compliance and protection of reputation.

How can the S2 Partnership help?

The S2 Partnership’s team of highly-qualified and experienced consultants undertake hundreds of risk assessments each month to identify site specific risks in order to ensure health & safety and legal compliance.

The Slip Assessment will be undertaken by a highly-qualified and experienced S2 Partnership assessor with an in-depth knowledge and understanding of current health & safety legislation, along with good practice guidelines.

The assessment will include a physical inspection of sensitive floor areas under the landlord’s responsibility, including a surface roughness test using Health & Safety Executive (HSE) approved equipment and questioning of site management and other staff where appropriate. The results from the tests will be linked to the HSE’s computer-based Slips Assessment Tool (SAT), generating a slip risk classification. This information will be incorporated into a detailed Assessment Report including recommendations for frequency of re-testing. The assessment of safety risk will be carried out with the principles of OHSAS18001 in mind.
