Gate Safety Week 10th – 16th October

26th September 2016

Gate Safety Week runs from 10th – 16th October – a campaign aiming to highlight the dangers of badly installed and poorly maintained automated gates and how to prevent accidents.

The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) and British Safety Council are backing the initiative, with this year’s theme being ‘Safe Gates Save Lives’.

The DHF (Door & Hardware Federation) launched the campaign in 2014 with the hope to ‘confine powered gate accidents to the history books’.

A new industry code of practice for the safe installation and maintenance of powered gates has been introduced this year, providing a framework to ensure a gate is safe and complies with the law.

To help reduce accidents involving automated gates, organisations must take positive steps to decrease the risks. An S2 risk assessment of electronic gates will identify risks and outline suitable control measures.
